2018 wide receiver James Cherry joins Syracuse as preferred walk-on

The wide receiver had mutual interest with Robert Morris, but ultimately chose the Orange.

Class of 2018 wide receiver James Cherry will join the Syracuse football program as a preferred walk-on, he announced on Twitter Friday. Cherry shifted his commitment to Syracuse after previously expressing mutual interest with Robert Morris.

From St. Joseph’s Prep (Pennsylvania) High School, Cherry stands 5 feet 6 inches tall, per 247sports and runs a 4.49 40-yard dash, per his Hudl.com profile.



Cherry is the fifth wide receiver in SU’s 2018 class, joining the likes of Edward Hendrix and Anthony Queeley, among others. Track SU’s entire 2018 class here.

Syracuse opens the season on Friday, August 31 on the road against Western Michigan.
